Scrabble : Many Vocabulary I have just Seen
This is my first time playing Scrabble, I played it with bot. I ran out of time and I got 77 as my score.
I have found new words, there are :
1. Suave (adjective)
Having a pleasant and charming manner that may not be sincere. In Indonesian, it is "ramah tamah."
Example :
She is a suave nurse that I have ever met.
2. Fro. There are 2 meanings of "fro," as adverb and noun.
> (adverb) : to and from. In Indonesian it is "mondar-mandir."
Example :
The little boat rocked to and fro on the waves.
> FRO (noun) : Fire Risk Only. In Indonesian : "asuransi."
Example :
The warehouse is covered under a FRO policy.
3. Pave. It is a verb with 2 different meanings.
> To cover an area of ground with a hard, flat surface of pieces of stone, concrete, or bricks. In Indonesian : "mengaspal."
Example :
The area near the beach is paved with bricks set in patterns.
> To make it possible for someone to do something or for something to happen. In Indonesian : "mempermudah."
Example :
This new technology paves the way for easier communication.
4. Nix. There are 2 meanings of "nix", as verb, adverb, and noun.
> (verb) : to stop, prevent, or refuse to accept something. In Indonesian : "menolak", "memberhentikan", or "mencegah."
Example :
The master nixed our next plan.
> (noun) : nothing or no. In Indonesian : "tidak ada" or "tidak." It is usually used for informal situation in USA, but it is rarely used by native.
Example :
All that effort for nix. (noun)
I guess my mom will say nix about our plan to go to mall.
5. Awl (noun)
Example :
I bought an awl yesterday to make holes in the leather shoe.
6. Eta. It is a noun with 2 different meanings.
> The seventh letter of the Greek alphabet, (symbol H, η)
Example :
"Beta" and "eta" are look alike in writing, but they have different meaning. Beta (β) is the second letter, whereas "eta" (η) is the seventh letter of Greek alphabet.
> Abbreviation for "estimated time of arrival" : the time you expect to arrive. Indonesian says it "estimasi waktu."
Example :
Our ETA is 7:30 p.m.
7. Incur (verb)
Something unwelcome or unpleasant as a result of one's own behavior or actions. In Indonesia, it means "menanggung penderitaan".
Example :
He incurred a lot of debt after losing his job.
8. Lek (noun)
It is a biological word, which is a small where particular types of birds come together and show behavior that is intended to attract a mate (= a sexual partner).
Example :
The birds gather at the lek during mating season.
