Task 4 - ESL Laboratory (Listening Skill)

Hello readers! Welcome back to my blog. Today I'd like to share about my experience, listening on Randal's ESL Laboratory. They're many topics in this web and I'm interested in a topic "Introvert or Extrovert?". I chose it for it's so relate to me, which I don't know specifically I am an introvert or extrovert, I think I am an ambivert๐Ÿ˜†.

This is how it looks. It's on high-intermediate level. There are also pre-listening and vocabulary & expression.

There is a video that contains dialogue between Randall, Aubrey, and Emilly.
The video is above multiple choice questions. I answered it as I listen to the video.

I got score 7/7 in the multiple choice.

There are also some conversation questions below :

Easy Level:

  1. Are Aubrey and Emily more comfortable spending time alone or with other people?
  2. How does Aubrey feel about going out and being around others?
  3. Should people have the option to leave social situations if they start feeling tired or overwhelmed?

Intermediate Level:

  1. Aubrey mentions having social anxiety. How might this impact their experience as an introvert?
  2. Emily describes Randall as an ambivert. What characteristics or behaviors lead her to that conclusion?
  3. Randall mentions the importance of finding boundaries and comfort in stepping away from uncomfortable situations. Why is this important for introverted individuals?

Advanced Level:

  1. How does being an introvert or an extrovert influence an individual’s relationships and interactions with others?
  2. In what ways can societal expectations and norms affect introverted individuals? How can they navigate these challenges?

The answers :

Easy Level
  1. Aubrey and Emily are more comfortable spending time alone, they are introverts.
  2. Aubrey feels social anxiety, her social battery gets drained when she is around other people. So, she will go to the gatherings if she can leave whenever she wants.
  3. Yes, they should. People should have the option to leave social situations if they start feeling tired or overwhelmed. Every person have his/her own way to how the battery gets charged, such as introverts will get drained the social battery when they are too long around other people, extroverts will do vice versa, and ambiverts will do both, depended on the situation or their mood.

Intermediate Level
  1. Social anxiety makes introverts hard to be around people.  Aubrey even feels hard to leave her house and gathering with other people. There are also people like her, the social battery will get drained really fast by social interactions, but the anxiety adds extra stress, making it difficult to leave the house or join gatherings. So, she feels not too bad going to like small gatherings as long as she has the ability to leave at any time.
  2. Emily knows that Randall is very friendly to talk to random people (it shows Randall's extroverted side). But the other hand, she thinks that he really values quiet contemplation and just spending a lot of time by himself, such as he runs by himself, and he does a lot of him (it shows Randall's introverted side). So, those are characteristics and behavior of Randall that lead Emily describe him as an ambivert.
  3. Every person have his/her own way to how the battery gets charged, especially introverts who get charged their social battery by spending their time alone. They should have the option to leave social situations if they start feeling tired or overwhelmed. So, finding boundary is important for them. It also helps them manage their energy and emotions. Social interaction can be exhausting, so having boundaries, like knowing when to leave or take a break, allows them to recharge and feel safe without becoming overwhelmed.
Advanced Level
  1. Introverts often prefer deep, usually have connections with a few people. They may need more "me time" to recharge after socializing, which can make them more confident. While Extroverts develop on social energy. They build relationships easily and feel energized by group activities, but might struggle if they're alone in a place.
  2. Society often values extroverted qualities, like being outgoing and talkative, especially in schools or workplaces. This can make introverts feel pressured to act against their nature or feel “less capable.” To navigate this, introverts can do deep thinking, listening, creativity, and empathy. Setting personal boundaries, finding supportive environments, and practicing self-acceptance also help them function well without pretending to be extroverted.

So, which one are you? Introvert or Extrovert?
Whatever you are, you still what you are.

Thank you all for reading, see you next blog ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ˜
